I have a love-hate relationship with the concept of time.
It's nice to measure progress, failure, and change against time, yet painful
to allow it to construct our perceptions of the future and current moment.
I don't meet enough people who are free from time in this sense, let alone
truly happy in the current moment free of distress from tomorrow may hold.
Time is the basis of age, something that forms a discrimination I don't
agree with. You're not necessarily wiser, better, more experienced, or
enlightened because you're older than another person. Although I can
find plenty of people who would disagree with that statement or suggest that
age is indicative of those qualities, it is more likely that most of us fear
the people younger than us who are more willing and capable of allowing
greater personal change in their lives. |
